My name is John McKnight, welcome.

A Little About Me

I’m a twenty-something web developer/Unix admin guru/amateur photographer who’s on his way to considering himself a blogging expatriate. Once upon a time I used to enjoy writing… a lot. My interest in blogging diminished when I decided to invest in some new camera gear after years of using an aging Canon EOS 300D (Digital Rebel). Something sort of clicked in my mind that made me want to take this whole photography thing more seriously and that’s what I’m on my way to doing.

An Experiment

This site initially started out as a relatively simple experiment. What I wanted to do was take my CMS of choice (Textpattern), strip it down as much as possible and see how it functioned as a photoblog. The results far exceeded what I’d been expecting. It does just enough to remove any need for manual intervention but it doesn’t do it in a way that’s overly complicated and still provides me with a lot of flexibility to do what I want with it for the most part. Throw in a touch of jQuery, Slimbox 2, inspiration from Miklos Bacso’s wonderfully minimal site and a colour scheme taken from Kyle Neath’s Hemingway Wordpress theme and voila.

Enjoy.

Prints

I’ve had a few emails about whether or not I offer prints. The answer is yes and no. No meaning that I don’t have anything automated set up to do this (I’m testing out a few things to handle this), but yes in that if you’re seriously interested in prints, use the form on the contact page and choose “Print Inquiry” as the subject and we’ll talk. Name the size you’re interested in as my prices are negotiable depending on print size, paper type and shipping cost.
